The more common view is that conlangs are either exercises in comically failed utopianism (Esperanto’s sad and somewhat unfair fate in public opinion), or embarrassing frivolities, like an over-zealous passion for cosplay. But I believe conlangs do represent new linguistic diversity in some significant senses. Some of them much more so than others.
